20" - 28" tall Excalibur Red Lime Tree
Red Lime is a cross between Rangpur lime and a unknown kumquat (possibly Nagami based on the shape of the fruit). The addition of kumquat genes makes this cultivar much hardier than the Rangpur lime, and it should be on par with most kumquats and hybrids. Established plants should be hardy to 15F or slightly lower. In appearance, the Red lime resembles a kumquat, with long, elliptical leaves. Its growth habit is compact and bushy, making it an excellent container plant. In the ground, the Red lime should be about the size of a kumquat, maturing at about 10 feet in height. The fruit are egg-shaped and are among the most brightly colored of any citrus. The taste is sour and lime-like in flavor, though the flavor is unique and distinctive. The deep orange to almost red color makes the Red lime a highly ornamental plant as well.
