~ 3ft tall Kishu Mandarin Tree in a 3 Gallon pot
Our Kishu Mandarin trees are grafted to semi dwarf rootstock.
This cultivar is small but mighty, it's a great plant for those who may have a growing family and would like to have them be involved. This tiny mandarin also makes a fantastic container plant! Because of its small fruit size, the tree doesn’t need as much energy in order to support a bunch of fruit, which is nice for container life. Kishu tastes so sweet it’s almost like candy with a nice background of acidity which also makes this a pleasant citrus to snack on. This particular variety of Kishu is the seedless variety called mukaku kishu. These fruits are not cultivated commercially due to the small size and delicate nature so they’re considered a specialty cultivar. Kishu can be used in lots of culinary ways, dipped in chocolate, tossed in salads, used on a charcuterie or cheese board, dressings, vinaigrettes, sauces and syrups. The peel has been reported to be used in a Japanese spice mix called shichimi togarashi.
It has been reported to be a bit sensitive to cold, only being able to handle down to 32F, however, there has been reports that it can handle colder temperatures but this should be handled with caution. It ripens between November and January with its blooming time between late winter and early spring. This is a zone 9 and up tree but in a pot you can bring it inside or have it in a greenhouse. Once picked, the fruit will last around a week in room temperature and 1 to 2 weeks in the refrigerator.
